Zenless Zone Zero Version 2.8 (released May 6, 2026) introduces the long-awaited character—Starlight Billy. As the “Starlight” evolved version of the Cunning Hares’ robot member Billy, he has completely transformed into a top-tier Physical Attribute · Fracture-type Main DPS, and the game’s first Physical Fracture Main DPS.
This guide will provide an in-depth analysis of Starlight Billy’s core mechanics, best W-Engine and Drive Disc pairings, and suitable team compositions, allowing you to maximize his combat power from day one!

Starlight Billy is the new S-Rank Agent in the first half of ZZZ Version 2.8, belonging to the Cunning Hares faction. Faction: Cunning Hares; Attribute: Physical; Specialty: Fracture Main DPS; Rarity: S-Rank; Release Version: 2.8 (May 6, 2026).
The core advantage of Fracture-type characters lies in their damage type—Sheer DMG completely ignores enemy Defense (DEF) to deal direct damage. This allows Starlight Billy to maintain stable high output even against high-DEF enemies, making him the strongest Physical Main DPS choice currently available.

To fully utilize Starlight Billy, you must understand these three core concepts:
Fracture is Billy’s basic specialty. Fracture characters do not deal normal Physical DMG; instead, they convert damage into accumulated “Sheer Force.”
Billy’s every 1 point of HP converts into 0.1 points of Sheer Force (e.g., 10,000 HP → 1,000 Sheer Force). This means Billy’s build direction is completely different from traditional Attack-type characters—you don’t need to stack ATK, but rather maximize HP to strengthen his Sheer Force base.
When Billy triggers Sheer DMG, it completely ignores enemy DEF. Additionally, Billy has a unique anti-death mechanism: when receiving a fatal blow, he triggers a 180% HP shield lasting 100 seconds, protecting him from dying due to the continuous HP drain in Moto Mode.

The most unique aspect of Starlight Billy’s gameplay is his dual form switching mechanism:
Activated using Special Attacks. In Moto Mode, HP continuously drains; CRIT DMG is +30%; DMG taken is reduced by 12%; attacks accumulate “Heat.” At 100 Heat, the EX Special Attack upgrades to “Starlight Knight Kick”—Billy’s strongest burst skill, dealing massive Sheer DMG.
The default combat state. Basic Attacks restore HP, replenishing the life consumed in Moto Mode. The cycle of “Attack → HP Drain → Switch to Recover → Attack Again” is the core rhythm of Billy’s combat. Mastering the timing of these switches is key to maximizing output.
Recommended upgrade order for Starlight Billy: Core Skill > Special Attack > Basic Attack > Chain Attack > Dodge > Assist Skill
The Core Skill contains the HP to Sheer Force conversion formula, the foundation of Billy’s damage. Special Attacks determine the strength of Moto Mode and the damage multiplier of “Starlight Knight Kick.” Dodge and Assist skills are relatively secondary.

Billy’s signature W-Engine perfectly fits his build: HP +30%; CRIT Rate +20%; for each stack, Physical Sheer DMG +12% (can stack multiple times). If you plan to main Starlight Billy, pulling for this is highly recommended.
Cauldron of Clarity: Provides stable CRIT bonuses. Radiowave Journey: Battle Pass W-Engine, suitable for players looking for steady output increases.
CRIT DMG +25.6%; when HP is below 50%, EX Special Attack DMG +32%. Since Billy’s HP drains in Moto Mode, this condition is almost always active, making it a high-value F2P choice.

The highest-rated set for Billy. 2-piece: Max HP +10%. 4-piece: After using an EX Special Attack, Chain Attack, or Ultimate, accumulate CRIT Rate stacks. At 3 stacks, Physical Sheer DMG +10%. Billy uses these skills frequently, making it easy to maintain full stacks.
Pair with Woodpecker Electro for CRIT Rate; Branch & Blade Song for Chain Attack synergy; or Bunny in Wonderland for HP +10% to directly buff Sheer Force.
Slot 4: CRIT Rate or CRIT DMG; Slot 5: Physical DMG Bonus% or HP%; Slot 6: HP%. Sub-stats: HP% > CRIT Rate = CRIT DMG > Flat HP. Remember: Do not stack ATK%—Billy’s damage scales from Sheer Force (converted from HP), making ATK useless for him.

Starlight Billy needs a Stun, Defense, or Support teammate to activate his Core Skill’s Chain DMG bonus. Here are three mainstream setups:
The strongest tested team. Starlight Billy as the core Physical Fracture Main DPS; Lucia provides Physical support; Dialyn (introduced in 2.7) synergizes with Physical teams to significantly boost Chain Attack output.
Replacing Dialyn with the healer Ju Fufu helps replenish Billy’s HP consumed in Moto Mode, reducing the risk of death. Lower output than the Dialyn team, but much higher comfort and survivability.
Caesar provides shields and triggers Billy’s Core Skill bonus, making this a safe choice for high-difficulty stages. The shield mechanism makes Moto Mode’s HP drain a non-issue.
Official values for Starlight Billy’s Mindscape Cinema are not fully public, but beta data suggests they further enhance Sheer DMG caps and skill multipliers. Overall, he performs strongly at M0 (zero duplicates). M1 or M2 provide noticeable boosts but are not strictly necessary.
Materials include: Character Ascension (Physical Fracture-specific cores); Skill Upgrades (Cunning Hares weekly boss materials and general skill books); and Physical W-Engine enhancement stones. It is recommended to farm these in advance.

Starlight Billy is a standout Physical Main DPS in ZZZ 2.8: his Fracture mechanism ignores DEF, giving him a natural advantage against tough enemies; his dual-form gameplay is deep and satisfying; and he currently has no competition in the Physical Fracture niche.
If you are considering who to pull in 2.8, Starlight Billy is a top-tier choice. We hope this guide helps you master the Physical Fracture playstyle! Feel free to leave a comment below with any questions.
