Plot Summary: Earthrealm vs. Shao Kahn

Continuing the universe established in 2021, the sequel focuses on the protectors of Earthrealm reuniting to face the dark threat of Outworld’s ruler, Shao Kahn. This evil force endangers the existence of Earthrealm, forcing every fighter into a final battle with no retreat.

The standout addition is the fan-favorite character Johnny Cage. Played by The Boys star Karl Urban, Cage is a washed-up Hollywood action star recruited by Raiden to join the Mortal Kombat tournament in Outworld, thrusting him into a life-or-death struggle.

Johnny Cage Arrives! Karl Urban as the Wild Hero

In the game series, Johnny Cage is one of the most beloved characters. Despite his arrogant celebrity persona, he possesses “Shadow Power” inherited from his lineage, allowing him to stand against gods.

New Zealand actor Karl Urban is a perfect fit for the role. Much like his character Billy Butcher, Urban’s Cage is rugged and outspoken but a true hero when it counts. In the trailer, he shouts the iconic line “Showtime!” and showcases a fighting style blending Hollywood stunts with supernatural powers.

Japanese Stars: Hiroyuki Sanada & Tadanobu Asano

While Johnny Cage is the big surprise, the return of Hiroyuki Sanada and Tadanobu Asano provides the film’s emotional weight.

Fresh off his Golden Globe win for Shōgun, Hiroyuki Sanada returns as Hanzo Hasashi, aka Scorpion. His delivery of the legendary line “Get over here!” in the trailer instantly ignited fan excitement.

Tadanobu Asano also returns as Raiden, the God of Thunder. His relationship with Johnny Cage—as the one who brings him into the tournament—will be a central driving force in the sequel’s plot.
